Field

The Macrocosmos contained fields and particles.

A field is a quantity which has a value, and perhaps a direction, at each point in space. If there is just a quantity then the field is scalar. If there is also a direction then it is a vector field.

Familiar examples found in the Universe today are:

  • a map of rainfall (scalar);
  • electric and magnetic fields (vector).
